Lab facilities

The Solar Research & Development Center (SRDC) is the first and one of the other Center of Excellences at PDEU housing 13 labs, namely the Materials Processing Lab, FE-SEM Lab, XRD Lab, Raman Spectroscopy Lab, Photoluminescence Spectroscopy Lab, Photo-characterization Lab, Battery Development Lab, BET Lab, Test & Measurement Lab, Photovoltaic System Lab, Chemical Process Lab, Electrochemical Process Lab and Computation Lab developed from several Govt. R&D funding.

Materials Development Lab

The lab is housing 2 single (1000C) and one dual zone CVD systems (500/500C), RTP & chalconization furnace, two highT ceramic tube furnaces (1400C), 4 Muffle furnaces, DC-RF Magnetron Sputtering,  and Thermal evaporator for materials and device fabrication.

FE-SEM & EDX Lab

The Zeiss Ultra 55 Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope equipped with Oxford EDX is capable of imaging solid and thin films samples with 1nm resolution.

XRD Facility

The PANalytical X'pert pro system is capable to scan both low and high resolution measurements on powder as well as thin film samples.

Raman spectroscopy

The Renishaw inVia confocal micro-Raman spectroscopy enables both single point and mapping mode measurements with spatial resolution of 0.25 micron.

Photoluminescence spectroscopy

The Horiba Fluorolog system is used to obtain spectral and time-resolved PL spectra of solid and liquid samples.

Quantum Yield Measurement

The Optosolar EQE/IQE measurement system is used to obtain quantum yield of solar cells of up to 6X6 sq. inches in the wavelength range 200-1100 nm with two gratings and four band pass filters.

BET Facility

The Quatachrome physisorption BET analyzer for obtaining information about specific surface area and porosity of variety of nano-materials.

Electrochemical Test & Measurement

The PAR and Autolab potentiostat-galvanostat systems used for all types of electrochemical measurements, water splitting (hydrogen generation), CO2 reduction experiments, electrodepositions as well as frequency response analysis (FRA) for powder and film samples.

Device Test & Measurements (Electrical properties)

The electrical property measurement division (Test & Measurement Lab) has Agilent LCR meter (75kHz-30MHz), DC power supplies, Ecopia constant magnetic field (0.55T) Hall-effect measurement system (with 77K-RT temperature variation capability) in four-probe, Van der Pauw techniques.

UHV Thermal Evaporator (New addition 2023)

The thermal evaporator has a turbo-molecular pump based vacuum chamber to create vacuum ~ ten micro-Torr facilitating evaporation of high melting point metals, along with substrate heating and rotation arrangement.

Glove box & measurement interfaces

The Glove box facility is used for battery and supercapacitor development.

Computational materials design

Computational design of materials, interfaces and devices for energy is being done by DFT based packages, such as VNL-Atomic toolkit, VASP. Light matter interaction modeling being done with FDTD based packages such as, Comsol RF module and others.
